picture this: a city where tomorrow is already here\n\nI'm in Shenzhen where skyscrapers touch the clouds\n\nthere's an electric buzz in the air\n\nbut quite literally there are electronics everywhere\n\nbut it's not just about the gadgets\n\nthe city is alive with flavors and surprises\n\ncome with us \n\nToday we're uncovering the stories behind\n\nthe tech capital of the world\n\nwhen I was a small boy, the town center\n\nthere's nothing\n\nthere's a field and and many many bok choy, you know?\n\nSo buckle up\n\nget those snacks ready cos you're gonna
need them\n\nand join me for an epic day\n\nfood adventuring around Shenzhen\n\nyou are not gonna wanna miss this \n\nhello hello from Shenzhen! or should I say good morning good morning?\n\nit is right on 7am\n\n and I am here at this beautiful viewpoint\n\nat the top of Lianhuashan\n\nwhich is this mountain\n\nin the middle of Shenzhen city centre\n\nit's one of many\n\nmountains you'll actually find within the city of Shenzhen.\n\nvery mountainous region. and right now\n\nit's mostly just me\n\nand the more hardcore fitness community\n\nbut in this
moment\n\nI'm not sure who was more of an athlete\n\nthese Marathon runners\n\nor this photographer who really committed to his role, bless him\n\nsuddenly this turned into quite the photo shoot\n\nand not sure what happened in the editing process\n\nbut here is the resulting image\n\nhi from me and my fit friends\n\nwhat we're looking over in this area is Futian district\n\nit's like the beating heart of Shenzhen\n\nthe absolute city centre and what amazes me\n\nis that this district was only really\n\nestablished in the nineties\n\nso while Shenzhen
actually has a history\n\nspanning over 1,500 years\n\nfor the vast majority of that time\n\nit was a quiet fishing village\n\nbut then in the year 1979\n\neverything changed for Shenzhen\n\nwhen it was declared\n\nChina's first ever special economic zone\n\nso many people coming to the city of Shenzhen\n\nto find work and as of filming this video\n\nthe population of Shenzhen stands around 18\n\nmillion people I mean\n\ncan you imagine\n\nfrom fishing village to 18 million people\n\nin the span of 50 years it's just wow\n\nit blows my mind\n\nthis
building you see here\n\nthis is Shenzhen Civic Centre\n\nin the back here this really tall building\n\nthis is the tallest building in Shenzhen\n\nit's the Ping Ann building\n\nthe fourth tallest building in the world\n\nand we're actually gonna be going right to the top\n\ntoday so stay tuned\n\nShenzhen's also a really long city\n\nit spans all the way over here to like\n\nthe Luohu district\n\nand then it spans all the way to the other side\n\nover there where you have the Nanshan district\n\nit's a really really big city\n\nvery long city I like to
compare it to a banana\n\nShenzhen is a banana city\n\nanyway that's quite enough about bananas for now\n\nlet's get off this mountain\n\nout of this park, through the hole in the civic centre\n\nand to our first stop of the day: breakfast obviously\n\n it's already my little tradition\n\nevery time I come to Shenzhen\n\nI have to get myself some Changfen and yeah\n\ntoday is no exception but it's a different kind of\n\nstyle of changfen than I've had before\n\nso the changfen I usually get here in Shenzhen\n\nare more on the simple side\n\na ladle of
rice flour batter\n\nan egg\n\nsome lettuce and the tiniest speck of meat\n\nit's steamed for a bit\n\nthen topped with the most delicious soy sauce\n\ncombo sauce I don't know what exactly they put in it\n\nbut it's absolutely delicious\n\nbut I thought today\n\nI'd mix it up with a different variety of changfen\n\nthat comes from Shantou\n\nanother city in Guangdong province\n\nI was told\n\nthe beef and seafood one is their best seller\n\nso I went for that and it follows the same principle\n\nthe batter is shaken out into a thin sheet\n\nthen its
steamed\n\nbut where it differs from the others I've had before\n\nis how many ingredients are added\n\nso along with egg which is a must\n\na decent amount of beef is added\n\nway more than usual, not to mention 7 shrimps\n\nyes I did count them\n\nas well as 5 oysters too\n\nit's all mixed together, spread out over the pancake\n\nat which point\n\nfresh bean sprouts added too. this is very\n\nvery different. then it's steamed\n\nafter a few minutes it's scraped together\n\nadded to a bowl wow\n\nit is big \n\nthen some garlic oil is added\n\nthe soy
juice too\n\nand another difference\n\nhere is also some pickled radish is added to the top\n\nand here is the final result\n\nplump juicy amazing\n\nthis is absolutely packed full of stuff\n\neven a few....\n\nlook at this juicy oyster\n\nI actually think in this\n\nthere's a higher ratio of filling to rice noodle\n\nwhich is definitely not typical\n\nI'd say, and yes\n\nwhile it is more expensive than usual\n\nI think it's still pretty reasonable for 20RMB\n\nwhich is around $2.70USD\n\nI would very much like my first bite to be of that\n\noyster got a
little bit of rice noodle there\n\nI've absolutely soaked it in that gorgeous sauce\n\noh my god that's good\n\nthat is so freaking good it's soft\n\nit's salty it's eggy\n\nit's garlicky\n\nand when that all gets a little bit too much\n\nyou've got these pickled radishes on top\n\nwhich is so refreshing and crunchy\n\noh my gosh it's so good\n\nit's got all the textures from all of those ingredients\n\nit is really full on with the ingredients\n\nyou got prawns oysters meat\n\nyou got bean sprouts which I'm really loving as well\n\nit gives this really
like refreshing crispiness\n\nit was so good it was gone within minutes\n\nand you know what\n\nthe best thing to do is after eating breakfast\n\ndrink coffee, duh!\n\nso I'm now heading down the road to do just that\n\nand on the way\n\nthe sun actually started to peek out through the clouds\n\nso I think this is actually gonna turn into a\n\nreally lovely day\n\nmuch like the other big cities in China\n\nShenzhen is undergoing a coffee revolution\n\nand I remember when I was here\n\nfor a few months in 2018 the main cafes available\n\nserving OK coffee
was Starbucks\n\nPacific Coffee and maybe Costa Coffee \n\nbut now there are so many Chinese brands serving really\n\nreally good coffee and I mean\n\nI'm Australian\n\nI'm quite fussy when it comes to my coffee\n\nand this place\n\nis actually a Shenzhen based coffee store \n\nit's a chain and I've never tried it\n\nso we're gonna try it \n\n I have to say\n\nI tend to judge a cafe in China\n\nby whether or not they have flat white\n\non the menu. Australian classic\n\ngotta get it \n\nand the word for flat white in Chinese I really\n\nreally enjoy,
it's called 'ao bai' ???\n\n??ao' ?? is the same character in Australia\n\n'ao da li ya' so 'ao' means Australia and bai means white\n\nso instead of flat white it's 'Australia white'\n\nI love that\n\nAustralia is like in the name of flat white here in China\n\noh that's cute \n\n moment of truth\n\nhow does it taste\n\nthat is a good coffee\n\nI would say that's 'ao da li ya' approved\n\nbut we're taking our coffee to go guys\n\nbecause we've got somewhere to be and it's\n\nit's right up there\n\nI don't know if you can get a sense from this
angle\n\nbut it is really freaking tall\n\nlike\none of those buildings that makes you feel vertigo\n\nfrom looking up, not down and yeah\n\ndid I mention I'm gonna go up it?\n\nI did go up it once before\n\nbut my fear of heights has somewhat increased over\n\nthe years so uh\n\nlet's see how this is gonna go\n\nit even has a glass viewing platform... haha\n\nit's fun\n\nit'll be fine \n\nand you know what they say to go up\n\nyou need to go down first\n\nif you follow the signs for Free Sky\n\nit will lead you to a ticket office\n\nfor the observation
deck\n\nand the ironic thing is free sky\n\nwell turns out, not so free\n\nnot gonna lie its slightly pricey 200 RMB\n\nbut I've just been told if it's your birthday\n\nyou can get it for 160 \n\nokay well\n\nhere goes nothing \n\nso right after security\n\nyou've got your classic tall building comparison\n\nnow this is slightly awkward\n\nit seems\n\nI am a little bit out of date with my information\n\nI was under the impression that this\n\nwas the fourth tallest building in the world\n\nturns out that is not true\n\nit's actually number five now
\n\nso here we are No. 5 Ping'an Financial Centre\n\nthat's where we are\n\n then No. 4 we have \n\nthis one which is located in Saudi Arabia\n\nlooks really really interesting\n\ndefinitely different kind of look from \n\nall of the others in the top 10 here \n\nNo.3 we have the Shanghai Tower\n\nNo. 2 we have the Merdeka from Malaysia and the No. 1\n\nthe Burj Khalifa\n\ntallest building in the world \n\nand that's crazy\n\nalmost a kilometre tall \n\nI mean today we're going high\n\nbut not that high\n\nthe Ping'an Financial centre is 599
meters\n\nman you would think they would just round up \n\nto 600m, wouldn't you\n\n118 floors\n\nI mean that's purposeful\n\nthe number 8 is very important in Chinese culture\n\nBA (8) has the same intonation as FA\n\nwhich means to get rich \n\nabout to go up in the lift\n\nI'm in the line\n\nbut they have this little photo opportunity here\n\na green screen with this ladder\n\nand then it makes you look like you are floating above the tower here\n\nit cost 49RMB\n\nbut I'm actually kind of tempted\n\nit could be nice for the cover image\n\noh
no\n\nI'm flying \n\nI'm really scared \n\nokay let's see how this looks \n\nand prepare yourselves\n\ncos this is really freaking hilarious\n\nnow that's what I call committing to a role\n\nunlike some people \n\nnames will not be mentioned\n\nWho am I kidding I have no idea who these people are anyway\n\nnow it's time to actually go up this tower for real\n\nthat's so cool\n\nso basically the scenery behind me here or what\n\nmy ears are popping like crazy\n\nwhat you see on the screen behind me\n\nhere is what it actually looks like outside\n\nif I
could see a window outside\n\nthis is what I would be seeing\n\nuh okay now...\n\nnow I'm starting to feel a bit nervous\n\nokay\n\nit just hit me\n\nI just started thinking what if that was a window right now\n\noh I just wanna get to the top\n\nI always used to wonder why my mum got so scared\n\nof tall building elevators\n\nand now I totally get her\n\ntotally get it okay\n\nlet's get out of here bye bye\n\nokay I'm here\n\n547 meters above the ground\n\nand there's actually a little sign over here\n\nthere's a Guinness World Records\n\nthat this
building has achieved\n\nand it says uh\n\nwhat does it say\n\nhighest glass floor cantilevered observation deck \n\nso as you can see in all of these window areas\n\nyou also have a little glass floor on every single\n\nlittle alcove \n\noh my God\n\nokay let's try\n\noh my God oh my God\n\noh my God oh my God oh my actual God\n\nokay okay\nhere we go it's taking quite some courage\n\njust one step one simple step\n\nhere we go okay\n\nI'm on the gl..... aahhhh\n\none foot on\n\ncome on come on\n\noh holy moly\n\noh shhhhhivers \n\noh my God no\n\nno no
no no\nno no\n\nno\n\nmoving swiftly on over to this side\n\nand this\n\nviewpoint where there is no glass on the floor\n\nso I'm automatically feeling a lot more comfortable\n\nover here and from this viewpoint\n\nwe can actually see the coastline of Shenzhen\n\n the coastline of Shenzhen is actually really\n\nreally long about 260 km of coastline total\n\nand I have to say as an Australian\n\nanother aspect of life along with coffee\n\nthat I do judge pretty harshly are beaches\n\nand in Shenzhen they do have some pretty decent beaches\n\nuh and
uh\n\nactually something I'm a little bit ashamed to say is\n\n I actually had my first ever\n\nsurfing lesson in Shenzhen \n\non the world's tiniest waves\n\nit was actually quite hilarious that they\n\ncontinued to run that surf class\n\nwhen there was literally no waves\n\nbut I did stand up\n\nthat's what's important\n\noh and the view from this window\n\nshould be familiar to everyone\n\nI think you recognize this spot right here\n\nthat's where we were this morning at sunrise\n\nthe viewing deck wraps\n\nthe whole way around the building\n\nfor 360
degree uninterrupted views of Shenzhen\n\nyou can pretty much see the entire city from here\n\noh cool okay\n\nfrom this angle you can see right down there\n\nthrough the viewing platform to Coco Park Mall\n\nit's actually my favorite mall in Shenzhen\n\nit is so cool and actually come to think of it\n\nI could not have timed this better\n\nlook at this, it is right on 12\n\nlet's go get some lunch in Coco Park Mall\n\nhere we are this is Coco Park\n\nI really like this mall\n\nI feel like it just feels very modern and new\n\nand it's multi
level\n\nthere's lots of places to get food and drink coffee\n\nand I guess you're probably wondering okay Amy\n\nwhat's for lunch\n\nwhat kind of local specialties can we find here\n\nin Shenzhen and I think this is probably\n\nthe perfect time to mention that\n\nShenzhen is not your typical Chinese city\n\nso most cities in China\n\nthey're built on hundreds of years of tradition\n\nand built by tightly knit communities\n\nbut Shenzhen's different\n\nbecause Shenzhen is actually built by newcomers\n\nso back in the 1980s and 90s\n\nthis was one of the
fastest growing cities in the world\n\nand people from all over the country were\n\ncoming here to chase their dreams\n\nand find opportunities\n\nand with them they brought their culture\n\nof course their cuisines so as a result\n\nShenzhen is a vibrant\n\nmelting pot of all different cultures\n\nfrom all around the country\n\nyou can find pretty much every single cuisine here\n\nbut the catch\n\nand this is the point I was trying to make earlier\n\nwhich is uh in Shenzhen\n\nit's not really known for any of its own\n\nfood specialties I mean\n\nmaybe
one arguably\n\nand we'll be actually having that for dinner tonight\n\nso I think we're just gonna walk around\n\nsee if anything catches our eye\n\nit could be any cuisine really\n\nthey've got everything here\n\nthis place here looks popular\n\nI've just come upstairs and I've seen this restaurant\n\nthe smartest decision is just to follow the people\n\nthere are so many people lining up for this\n\nthere are all these Michelin pictures on the wall\n\nit's been featured in the Michelin guide\n\nfor five years in a row\n\nI'm not sure exactly what food
it has\n\nbut uh I will be waiting up up to an hour to get it\n\ngot myself a menu\n\nI've learnt that the name of this place is Da Ge Fan\n\nwhich means big pigeon rice\n\nand as promised\n\nthere is a lot of rice and a lot of pigeon on this menu\n\nI mean check out\n\nall of the different ways that pigeon is cooked here\n\n we have sweet baked, here\n\nspicy one here pigeon on a stick here\n\n we have a traditional red braised (deep fried) pigeon\n\nsalt baked pigeon even pigeon in a soup\n\nand over here we have like pigeon clay pot rice\n\nwhen in
doubt\n\ngo online and check out what the top rated dishes are\n\nso according to this No. 1\n\nwe have the red braised deep fried pigeon\n\nfollowed by number two\n\n pigeon clay pot rice with black truffle\n\nyummy \n\nYou come here almost every week? \n\nyeah yeah yeah\n\nwhy?\n\nbecause the price is good and the taste is good\n\nyeah?\n\nwhat should I order?\n\ndo you have any recommendations\n\nbecause you are just one, you cannot eat much food\n\ncome with us\n\n are you sure\n\nI know you're the Youtuber, I always watch you \n\noh really
yeah\n\noh my God \n\nvery interesting turn of events um\n\nI was just wondering what should I order\n\nwhat should I order and a very kind man came up to me\n\nand started giving me a recommendations\n\nturns out he actually watches me on YouTube\n\nand I'm now gonna be eating with him and his family\n\nI Learned that KP\n\nand his family actually live in Hong Kong\n\nand have come over to Shenzhen for a day trip\n\nso what do you usually order when you come here\n\nI usually just must eat this one \n\nI never find better taste than this, this
shop\n\nand this is rice\n\nclaypot rice\n\nand a lot of good taste things \n\nThis is good\n\nthis is the timer said\n\nIt's said every dishes must be available here within 30 minutes\n\nif it doesn't come in 30 minutes\n\nthey give us our meal for free\n\nthat's nice \n\nand we definitely didn't need to wait\n\nfor more than 30 minutes within 10 minutes\n\nour first dish arrived\n\nthis is the one whole pigeon\n\nThey remove the bones, it's good\n\nsome ginger\n\nThe Cantonese ginger, I don't know... sand ginger?\n\nHas special taste\n\n come
together\n\nmix it together wow\n\nonce the waiter collected all the veggies\n\nand put them on top of this pile of pigeon\n\nshe poured on that sand ginger sauce\n\nand the mixing began\n\n oh thank you!\n\nwow this looks so nice wow\n\nso fragrant yeah\n\nyeah that is so good yeah\n\nyou've got that onion taste in there from the onion\n\nit's got some crunchiness\n\nreally gingery and the the meat is so tender\n\nit's really good like a pigeon salad\n\n so refreshing\n\nWould you like a pepper stuffed with fish? \n\nwe have a pepper stuffed with
fish\n\nis this a very Cantonese dish?\n\nyeah\n\ntraditional cantonese food\n\nyou can find it on the street stall\n\nreally bouncy fish inside there\n\nand Shenzhen I guess\n\ndoesn't really have too much of its own cuisine right\n\nno no Shenzhen no cuisine\n\nbut the best of cooks all the all the country\n\ncome here \n\nhere you can make money\n\noh my goodness we have four pigeons on our table here\n\nI guess one per person \n\nwhat what is this here\n\nthis is passionfruit juice\n\nafter you the pigeon\n\nyou drink one cup to refresh your
mouth\n\nit's like mango and passion fruit flavour yeah\n\nmango and passion fruit so\n\nthe waitress helped us deconstruct the pigeon\n\nfor ease of eating\n\nfirst off with its head then its butt\n\nthen it was cut into quarters\n\noh my gosh\n\nlook how fat and juicy those pigeons are okay\n\nnow it's time to eat but first need to glove up\n\nand here they actually have different size gloves\n\nto choose from \n\nthis is for lady\n\nthis for kid and this for the male adult\n\nrecommend to finish it within 6 minutes after coming\n\nBecause it's more
crispier \n\nso we need to get in there\n\nreally glazed on the outside\n\nsuch a nice red colour there\n\noh my gosh wow\n\nwow\n\nI just bit that and it just came right off\n\nwhat do you think?\n\nIt's the best pigeon I ate\n\nand it's very juicy and very sweet on the outside\n\ncrispy outside juicy inside\n\ncan you eat the head\n\nno we don't eat \n\nyou don't eat the head? \n\nIf you can eat, you can eat the brain \n\nonly the brain \n\noh okay\n\nwe don't eat because look... \n\nI mean yeah, we've got other things on our table\n\nDon't waste your
stomach\n\nand this I guess is the the butt \n\noh yeah yeah\n\nyeah yeah\n\ncan I eat yes\n\nI like oil yeah yeah okay yeah\n\nI'm gonna eat it\n\nand then I can chase it with my mango shot\n\nhere we go guys get money get me some pigeon butt\n\n apparently it's all full of oil and fat\n\nVery flavour\n\noh yeah that's the best that's the best\n\nthat's really really good yeah\n\ndefinitely very rich very oily\n\nthat's really nice\n\nit just kind of like freshens the palette\n\nare you gonna eat your butt\n\ncan I eat yours\n\nyeah yeah you can eat all
the butt\n\nI think you should try the butt\n\nIt's actually very tasty. different flavor from the meat\n\nactually is more rich in\n\nI don't know how to describe \n\nmore rich in taste\n\nI think yeah\n\nrich in the oil taste but not too oily actually\n\nit's really good \n\nand to finish us off\n\nwe've got our pigeon clay pot rice with black truffle\n\nwow I never could have finished this on my own\n\nlook how big that clay pot is\n\nand after we finished a few bowls of this rice\n\nwe got to enjoy what they call the guoba\n\nit's the best part. it's
the bottom of the claypot rice\n\nand it's always so crispy\n\namazing and it also feels like it has more flavor\n\nalways when it's been cooked a little bit more\n\nso good\n\ndo a lot of people from Hong Kong just come for the day\n\nto Shenzhen? yeah\n\nHong Kong people stay here for a hotel\n\nand eating, massage\n\nwhen was the first time you came to Shenzhen\n\num about 1977\n\nwhen I was a small boy\n\nso that was before it became a economic zone\n\na special economic zone? of course\n\nso what was it like\n\nwas it really small \n\nIt's
nothing\n\nwhen I first arrived in Shenzhen railway station\n\nyou know yeah\n\njust two tracks outside. there's a field\n\na lot of crops. no buildings\n\nonly one building. duty free shop\n\nwhen there's night, no lighting everything\n\nit's totally black out\n\nso in your lifetime\n\nyou've seen Shenzhen go from the small\n\nfishing village that they always say it is\n\nI don't see any fishermen\n\nthey always say Shenzhen was a fishing village\n\nmaybe in the seaside maybe. in the town center\n\nthere's nothing. there's a field and and many\n\nmany
bok choy, you know\n\nthat's the history. thank you so much\n\nthank you thank you so much\n\nnice to meet you too\n\n bye bye\n\nbye bye! \n\nI cannot get over that experience\n\nhe said it best 'yuanfen'\n\n'yuanfen' is basically a word in Chinese that means\n\nit was fate. it really was fate\n\nI mean I could not have planned that better if I tried\n\nnot only that I get to eat more dishes at that lunch\n\nand experience\n\nmore of what that restaurant had to offer\n\nand it was amazing by the way\n\nbut I got to learn more about Shenzhen\n\nfrom a
person who has been coming to Shenzhen\n\nhis whole life\n\nand has seen it transform from literally nothing\n\nto the city that it is today anyway\n\nwe are cracking on with our video\n\nwe are going now diving headfirst into the high tech\n\nnature of this city I mean\n\nShenzhen is known as the Silicon Valley of China\n\nand we're about to go to a place\n\nthat really explains why that is\n\nso we have just arrived in Huaqiangbei\n\naka the world's largest electronics market\n\nbut it's not just like one building\n\none market, it's actually spread
out over an area\n\nof 1.5 square kilometers and basically\n\nall the buildings you see around me here are just full\n\nwall to wall with electronics\n\nbut I've heard\n\nthe most famous building to visit is actually\n\nthis one right here\n\nit's called SEG Electronics Market or SEG\n\nI guess maybe the locals call it SEG\n\nwe're going to SEG guys\n\nwow that is not at all what I was expecting\n\nI've just come out of SEG and uh yeah\n\nI definitely thought there would be a bit more range\n\nin terms of the electronics offered there\n\ndon't get me
wrong on the first floor\n\nthere was definitely a bit more variety\n\nyou know massage gun stores next to KTV\n\nmicrophone stores and you know\n\nsome phone stuff here and there\n\nbut once you go to the second floor and beyond\n\nit was all just stuff related to phone\n\nnot that I'm complaining mind you\n\nI have spent hours in that store\n\nI have just spotted the cutest phone case\n\nI think I've ever seen\n\nI mean it it would be a tie between these two look\n\nit's an eggplant phone case and this is a peanut one\n\nbut that was just the
beginning\n\nI have never seen phone cases like this in my life\n\nand I live in China\n\nso I've seen my fair share of the phone case economy\n\nthese were just next level\n\nalso another sub category of phone cases that I never knew existed\n\nthe furry phone case oh my gosh\n\nfor those who love their soft toys\n\nbut also really love their phone\n\nthese were some of the cutest cases I've\n\never seen in my life there\n\nas well as everything like phone related\n\nI'm talking phone lanyards, things for your AirPods\n\nI mean for all the durian lovers
out there\n\nyou have some durian AirPods case\n\noh my goodness for all of the the pork belly lovers\n\nhere's the AirPods case for you\n\nit was the cutest thing ever\n\nand I have come out of there with a massive\n\nbag of stuff and I wanna show you what I bought\n\nso first things first\n\nI did end up getting a phone case\n\nand I mean this speaks for itself\n\nyes it is what you think it is\n\nit is a Crocs phone case\n\nso basically you just kind of slot your phone in here\n\nthere's even camera shows through there\n\nand also so convenient\n\nyou
can hold it can just like rest your hand there\n\nhello. absolutely amazing\n\num the next thing I got\n\nwell\n\nthe next things I got are all of a certain category\n\nI mean you guys know I love my phone lanyards\n\nI'm pretty much wearing one every single video\n\nso convenient but you know it's a bit boring\n\nthis one, let's let's mix it up a bit\n\nand they had the coolest phone lanyards there\n\nI have gotten like three\n\nthis one is uh bright and cute\n\nthis one is a bit more demure\n\nand this one is the last thing from demure\n\nit's just
like so extra. but like oh my gosh\n\ncoolest kid on the block\n\nand last but not least I got some uh\n\nAirPods merchandise some Airpod cases for Derk and I\n\nI got this one for Derk\n\nit's a bread AirPods case and this one's for me\n\nit'll make a lot more sense\n\nto people who have seen my last video\n\nwhere I bought all the things for my home\n\nincluding a croissant door handle\n\nno regrets on that purchase by the way\n\nit's so good for the static in my house in winter\n\nunforeseen uh benefit of that croissant door handle\n\nand I'm sure
there will be a lot of unforeseen\n\nbenefits of this AirPods case. like being cool\n\ncos look at that\n\nit's croissant. croissant for my AirPods case\n\nit's the coolest thing ever\n\nI mean the aim of this stop was to show you\n\nthe more high tech nature Shenzhen\n\nhave I done that? I'm not sure but oh my gosh\n\ndid you see that police on a Segway??\n\noh my gosh I almost punched that guy in the face\n\nbut I mean I did only go into one building\n\nand there are so many buildings here\n\nI mean this is a different one\n\nand this also has four or
five floors\n\nI think I actually went to the wrong SEG store\n\n one that maybe specifically focuses on phones\n\nand phone products\n\nthis is the right SEG store\n\n the kind of thing that I was expecting originally\n\nlots of gadgets and gizmos\n\na plenty. I got whozits and whatzits galore\n\nI feel like Ariel in here really\n\nthis place is quite a thing to behold\n\nso I would say if you have interest in gadgets\n\nelectronics, building your own laptop\n\nchecking out all the drones here\n\ncome with a shopping list\n\nknow what you want in your
head\n\nbecause I think this is the kind of place\n\nit would be easy to just like\n\nget super overwhelmed by\n\nI feel like there's everything here\n\nturns out\n\nlooking at electronics is seriously hungry inducing\n\nso let's head to dinner \n\nso I teased it a bit earlier\n\nbut it's now finally\n\ntime to dive into Shenzhen's\n\npretty much only food specialty\n\nand even that claim is contentious\n\nand I say it's contentious\n\nbecause\n\nI don't know if you can even say it's from Shenzhen\n\nbecause the roots of this dish\n\nundeniably lie in
Hainan Province\n\neven the name of this dish is Hainan Yeziji\n\nwhich means Hainan coconut chicken hot pot\n\nuh so basically\n\nthe roots of this dish come from Hainan Province\n\nbut the modern version of this dish can say\n\nit was invented in Shenzhen\n\nso I mean\n\nat the end of the day\n\nit doesn't really matter who invented the dish\n\nwhere it comes from, it's tasty\n\nand people here in Shenzhen\n\nhave really embraced it as their own\n\nI mean it's not like\n\nShenzhen is trying to deny the roots of this dish\n\nyeah this restaurant is
decked out\n\nlike we are in Hainan right now\n\nI mean I am literally sitting under a palm tree\n\nit's a fake palm tree but it is a palm tree nonetheless\n\ndefinitely getting all of the Hainan vibes anyway\n\nenough talking more eating\n\nlet's get into this basically\n\nin here we have our hot pot full of coconut water\n\n100% coconut water from Hainan Province\n\nand you know what else is from Hainan province\n\nthis chicken. this is Wenchangji\n\nthe famous Wenchang chicken\n\nand this is\n\nI've ordered half because I'm just one person\n\nand
basically they helped me add it to the pot\n\nand then I guess I just wait\n\nand I thought since I'm eating coconut chicken\n\nI may as well order some coconut water to go with it\n\nto drink and it's come in this cutest bottle\n\nthat I've just been told I can bring home\n\nand it comes with a lanyard\n\nI mean there has been also a lot of lanyards today\n\nand it's an adjustable lanyard\n\nso I really can just like\n\nadd it to my lanyard collection\n\ngrab and go. gonna bring this everywhere anyway\n\nour time has just run out\n\nit is time to eat
this. first things first\n\nI'm actually gonna get myself some of that coconut\n\nhot pot base I hear that's very nice to drink\n\noh that is so good\n\nit's really sweet and also slightly chickeny\n\nand I can only assume that\n\nthat is gonna become more and more chickeny\n\nthroughout the cooking process\n\nso I might compare\n\nand contrast this to my last sip of this broth okay\n\nnow I'm gonna actually try that chicken\n\nand I'm gonna dip it in this sauce\n\nbasically\n\nI can just add little bits of the ginger or chilli\n\nor that a little\n\nI
believe this is a calamansi\n\noh no I dropped my calamansi\n\nno one saw. I dropped my calamansi\n\nanyway I've got one more\n\neverything is fine let's try\n\nhmm oh yum\n\nI knew it would be\n\nbecause Wenchang chicken is famously amazing\n\nso the thing about Wenchang chicken\n\nit comes from the city of Wenchang in Hainan Province\n\nand they're fed really really well\n\nthey're filled on this like island diet\n\nof old island diet things\n\nI forgot exactly what the chickens are fed\n\nbut it's island food\n\nand they're also really happy
chickens\n\nthey're free range chickens\n\nthey you know\n\nhave the run of the land\n\nand they just running around being really happy\n\nand then yeah\n\nso it tastes really really nice\n\nuh the\n\nit's really tender it's chickeny in flavor\n\nand that sauce goes so well with it\n\nI think that soy sauce base\n\nit's not just your typical soy sauce\n\ncause it's actually a little bit sweet anyway\n\nso the resulting dish is just chickeny sweet\n\na little bit spicy from that chili, gingery\n\nfrom that sand ginger. I like this\n\nit's very warming and
hearty\n\nit's a nice dish coming into winter here in Shenzhen\n\nit's laughable knowing that Derk is back\n\nin Changchun\n\nfreezing his butt off in minus 15 degrees as we speak\n\nand I'm here wearing a blouse\n\nand 22 degrees outside in Shenzhen\n\nit's absolutely crazy\n\nand eating my hearty warming winter dish\n\nI mean when in Shenzhen\n\ndo as as the Shenzheners do\n\nso I fished out all the chicken\n\nI've got a pile of bones in front of me here\n\nand I am so excited to try this broth\n\nto see\n\nhow the flavor has changed over the course of
the last\n\n30 minutes or so oh\n\nit's definitely a lot more chickeny now\n\nit also has a slight taste of corn\n\nbecause I've got a corn in there\n\nthat I still haven't eaten\n\nso it's definitely got a coconuty\n\nchickeny corniness to it it's nice\n\nit it's a really nice broth\n\nit's a broth I'd be happy to eat again and again\n\nand again\n\noriginal plan for the ending of this video is uh\n\nI actually wanted to finish this video where it started\n\nuh because I do know that there is\n\noften a light show here at night\n\nwhere the surrounding
buildings are lit up\n\nit's got these beautiful designs on the buildings\n\nthey're all synchronized it's really\n\nreally pretty\n\nbut I have just learnt that that is only available\n\non Fridays and Saturdays\n\nI believe around 7, 7:30\n\nand I think there's like two or three showing\n\none on the hour I'm not too sure but it's not tonight\n\nso this will bring us to the end of today's food\n\nadventure here in Shenzhen\n\nit has been an absolutely packed day really\n\nreally fun day unexpected twist and turns\n\nI mean all the makings of a classic
food adventure\n\nI hope you guys have liked it\n\nas always uh\n\ndon't forget to like comment and subscribe\n\nif you've been watching me for a while\n\nyou haven't subscribed yet\n\nplease do me a favor and hit that subscribe button\n\nand I will see you on my channel next week\n\nbye from Shenzhen
