Eating Mala Hotpot in a Chongqing WWII Air Raid Shelter

In this video we visit a unique hotpot restuarant in Chongqing China It is consider one of the must visit place for hotpot For this restaurant was infact an air raid shelter built during world war 2 to protect the people from attacks! It is crazy how the big the restaurant is! We have decided to order a set that comes with a staggering 36 different dishes! To make dipping sauce we have oyster sauce Red chilies Mushroom sauce Fish mint root Spring onion Minced garlic Coriander Vinegar And sesame oil that comes in a personal mini can For this hotpot we can
request a metal divider This would allow you to cook the food at different heat Where the center would be the hottest Being a very long restaurant they have robots to help deliver the food In total we have 4 trays each containing 8 different dishes! Before we start we better put on apons to prevent oily spills from the lethal broth! For this we have duck’s blood Radish Pumpkim Mini hotdog Black bean tofu Braised quail egg Ham slices Lotus root Luncheon meat These will take a while to cook Before then we shall try their fresh meats slices starting with
tender beef slice Wow! Soft tender beef packed with lots of mouth numbing spicies! Then we have tomato marinated pork slices Can’t really seem to taste the tomato here but it was very tender too Next up is duck intestines For the organs part it does taste kinda gamey but the strong mala broth does help to mask it up Then we have liver Which maybe the only meat that the rich mala broth had a hard time masking cause it was still very strong liver tasting The food in the hotpot is ready! The duck blood was clean tasting and so yummy! It is like a hot soft
savory tofu! The sweet potato though was big in size but mellow in taste The radish was did not really absorb the mala and was kinda refreshing The black bean tofu had a sweeter taste compared to regular ones The lotus root pretty does was it does which is hold its strong vegetable texture though cooked The mini hotdogs though small is packed with quite a lot of flavors The ham slices seems to be made of ingredients and tasted similar The luncheon offer the most meaty bite here being thick and juicy And the sweet braised quail egg went well in the spicy
mala broth A staff have come to help us with the minced meat dish For this they will shaped them into meat balls before popping them in the hotpot Ok lets cook our next set of dishes starting with coated pork Baby Chinese cabbage Potato slices Tomato wedges Soy bean sprouts Braised pork large intestines Black fungus Black fungus Kelp Kelp Celtuce slices And cucumber slices And cucumber slices The meat balls are first to be cooked They tasted really good with all the flavors! The braised large pork intestines offered crunchiness and sweetness The coated
pork had coating that was kinda gel like Alright now lets put in the black beef tripe Alright now lets put in the black beef tripe Prawn dumpling And egg dumpling The black beef tripe is one of the highlight here being very clean tasting with nice crunchy texture The prawn dumpling was really soft, flavorful and sweet While the egg dumpling was similar and bouncier On to the next dish which is called Thousand layer beef tripe This was very chewy and absorbed the broth too well! The mala is really too spicy for us and we have ordered some drinks! This
drink comes in a super tall cup! It is both salty and sour and helps to lessen the fire on the tongue! This unique drink was cooling with just right sweetness! Back to the hotpot we have something called aorta slices Imitation crabstick Chinese sausage Wintermelon slices And beancurd skin Our trays is lessening and we just have a few dishes left! The aorta slices was chewy and also tender The beancurd skin had a rich soybean flavor The crabstick soaked up with the mala broth like a sponge! The chinese sausage did kept it out being just hard and sweet And
the wintermelon was like the radish which was rather refreshing For the last few dishes we have sweet potato noodles For our last few dishes we have sweet potato noodles Rice cakes Rice cakes And crispy dough fritters And crispy dough fritters And finally we have put all 36 dishes in the hotpot! The sweet potato noodle was slippery and chewy The crispy dough fritter offered a hard sweet oily crunchy bite And the rice cake was nice and chewy with hot piping cheese in the middle! Yummy! Overall this meal
made us cough, sneeze with drippy nose throughout! The mala was really spicy but I guess also it made all the food taste extra good! Well can say eating here was a one of a kind experience!
